Evernote

I learned about this one from my son, who is in college. Since then, I use this app on a daily basis! You can use an iPad, Mac or Windows computer, or an iPhone/iPod Touch for this app.

This app allows you to create notebooks. I have created a notebook for each of my campuses (or students) so that I can keep my anecdotal notes in one place. You can record conferring sessions while you take notes.

Students read aloud a text and record it into Evernote using the audio record function. They can listen to their recording and follow along with the book. You might also provide them with a fluency rubric and have the self-assess for strengths and areas for improvement. Students can set fluency goals, practice, and re-record to assess improvement. Recordings can be shared with parents via email or kept in the student’s digital portfolio.

Evernote syncs up your iPhone, iPad, and computer so that you have all your notes wherever you are. You can even email the notes to colleagues.

Happy teaching,
Kelly Harmon
